THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

          May 9, 2010

(Luke 24:1 NIV) On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. (Luke 24:2 NIV) They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, (Luke 24:3 NIV) but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. (Luke 24:4 NIV) While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. (Luke 24:5 NIV) In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? (Luke 24:6 NIV) He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: (Luke 24:7 NIV) 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'" (Luke 24:8 NIV) Then they remembered his words.

My last message was about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In this message I will give a number of reasons why the resurrection of Jesus is very important for man.

(1) Jesus proved he was the son of God by rising from the dead. Jesus claimed he was the son of God during his time of ministry on this earth. (Mat 26:63 NIV) But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." (Mat 26:64 NIV) "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right

(2) The death before the resurrection was extremely important.   Jesus died for the sins of man to become the savior of mankind. (2 Tim 1:9 NIV) who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, (2 Tim 1:10 NIV) but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

(3) The resurrection of Jesus fulfilled many bible prophecies, some of which were written over 700 years before. The bible is true and trustworthy.

(4) The resurrection proves there is a resurrection of the dead.  Just as Jesus rose from the dead we will also rise from the dead to eternal life.

(5)  Christian baptism is symbolic of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. (Rom 6:3 NIV) Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? (Rom 6:4 NIV) We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. (Rom 6:5 NIV) If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.

(6) Christianity stands or falls on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (1 Cor 15:19 NIV) If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. (1 Cor 15:20 NIV) But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.   (1 Cor 15:21 NIV) For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. (1 Cor 15:22 NIV) For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. (1 Cor 15:23 NIV) But each in his own turn: Christ, the first fruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

The resurrection is one of the best documents facts of all history.
