THE GREATEST CHRISTMAS GIFT OF ALL
Dec. 24, 2009
(Isa 9:6 NIV) For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Through the birth of Jesus God gave the greatest gift that has been given to the world The gift was fulfilled in the words of John. (John 3:16 NIV) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. There are six important reasons why Jesus is the greatest Christmas gift ever given.
An Unsolicited Gift
God`s gift is an unsolicited gift. We mayask someone what they would like for their birthday or Christmas. However, God gave Jesus as a gift to the world without anyone asking. (Rom 5:8 NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. God gave the world the gift that is most needed without anyone asking.
An Unlimited Gift
God`s gift was also an unlimited gift. Some gifts that are offered for sale in stores are so expensive that only the richest people can afford them. But, God`s Christmas gift is for everyone. (John 3:16 NIV) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. The gift is available for everyone in the world. No one can say Jesus did not die for them.
An Unspeakable Gift
God`s gift is an unspeakable gift. (2 Cor 9:15 NIV) Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! God never gives anything, but the best. (James 1:17 NIV) Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. God`s Christmas gift to the world is unspeakable. Words cannot describe the gift.
An Unchanging Gift
God`s gift is an unchanging gift. (Heb 13:8 NIV) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. In this life things are always changing. Jesus never changes. He is perfect.
An Undeserved Gift
God` gift is an underserved gift. When we believe Jesus died on the cross for our sins we receive God`s gift, the gift of salvation. There is nothing we can do to earn it. Something that we earn or deserve is not a gift. (Eph 2:8 NIV) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--(Eph 2:9 NIV) not by works, so that no one can boast.
An Unclaimed Gift
God’s Christmas Gift that is unsolicited, unlimited, unspeakable, unchanging, and undeserved is also an unclaimed gift. God`s gift is for the whole world, but the whole world has not received the gift. If you prepared a very special gift for someone and they do not receive it how would you feel? God gave the greatest gift to the world, but most people have not received it. Receiving and believing have the same meaning in the bible. (John 1:12 NIV) Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- When we believe God sent Jesus into the world to die for our sins we receive the gift of eternal life. There is no greater gift.
